Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from various walks of life, all which have led them and their families to the great urban metropolis of New York City, District 6 to pursue their American Dream. District 6 is the largest district in the City with students for whom English is a New Language (ENL). Our school is over forty-five percent ENL and about eighty-five percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My students come to school and to class each and every day, even on Saturdays, with a vigor to learn and a desire for success. My students have diverse educational, emotional, and social needs and as their teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to teach and afford them as many opportunities as possible.

My Project

The shiny new MacBook Pro my students and I are requesting has a HEFTY price tag; we know, which is why we need your help! Having this specific computer will help us expand our family outreach and engagement, which will help my students, my school, and the school community, District 6.

Why do we need such a fancy computer to increase our Family Engagement?

Well, let us tell you. We need this computer for a few reasons the two main reasons being: to design advertisements and for the editing and production of family engagement videos.

This computer will allow us to make top of the line digital advertisements and posters, which will help attract our local families to our family events, such as the Winter Wonderland Showcase in December, our Family Field Day in the Spring, and our Family Picnic in the Summer. We also offer ESL classes so our families, but we have very few families that attend, we would like to increase the attendance and to help us spread the word we need this computer.

The second use, and what the students and parents are most excited for is the creation, editing, and production of mini videos to showcase our school learning, school events, and to engage our families with our school. Eventually, we would like to make our very own Family YouTube channel as a way to communicate with our parents, my students have started making videos about the "happenings of HGMS", however, we have no way to edit and produce our recordings. This computer will allow us to take the recordings and make them into official productions so we can create our very own Family Engagement video communication. Please help us make this dream a reality.
