My Students

All teachers are "special"; special education teachers have extra special needs for their students. My students aren't conventional learners. I teach a variety of students with a variety of different learning disabilities.

Some of my students have verbal learning disabilities, some non-verbal, but not being able to speak is not the same as not having anything to say!

It is important to understand each individual and how differently each learns. I create personalized lesson plans assessing the needs of each individual so each student can thrive and reach their maximum growth potential.

My Project

These materials will make a great difference in my students’ learning in the classroom and at home! Sorting and grouping things together is a very important cognitive skill. It teaches a child to notice similarities and differences, learn to categorize, and develop early numeracy skills.

Through peg play, children can learn colors and counting, improve fine motor skills, and enjoy experimental play.

Peg play can include sorting by colors, following directions, and independent task completion.

Nursery rhymes are patterns, they help children learn easy recall and memorization. This teaches children that events happen in sequence, and they begin to learn how to understand stories and follow along. Nursery rhymes use patterns and sequence, so children begin to learn simple math skills as they recite them.
