it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are very special to me. Some of them are new to me this school year, and some I’ve worked with from the very beginning to what is now the end of their elementary school careers. I genuinely love my students for their varying personalities, each of which has fostered the unique bonds that we have built. Although my students have differing preferences and needs, they all have receptive and expressive language goals that can be achieved more seamlessly with the aid of an iPad (and a protective case to prop it upright for easier access and viewing).
By donating to this project, you will be helping provide my non-speaking students with a means to communicate their basic needs and wants.
Given an iPad, my students will be able to try different communication apps and learn to express themselves through the one that is found to be most appropriate. This iPad will serve as my students’ voices when they do not have access to another means of communication. In addition, an iPad will benefit my speaking students who are disinterested in the more traditional therapy materials and activities, as it’ll motivate them to participate. Through my lived experience as a school-based speech-language pathologist, I’ve found that students are often more inclined to engage in activities that involve devices.
Please help me secure an iPad and case for my students. They deserve to have a voice and to feel excited about learning. I truly believe that with your help, we can make an even greater impact on their lives. Thank you in advance!
