Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach seniors at our school, a Title 1 school in NYC. Currently, because of the Covid19 pandemic, I'm teaching in a hybrid model: 70 percent attend online and 30 attend in person.

Along with applying to college and attending their classes, my seniors are dealing with an unprecedented level of anxiety: a global pandemic, a racial justice movement, a consequential election.

My seniors show up every morning, ready to learn. They are amazing students, and I am impressed by them every day.

My Project

I need to see and hear my students, and they need to see and hear me! While this may seem basic, it is what I need to teach.

An external monitor will allow me to see my whole class- every student.

An external microphone will help my students hear me - my teacher voice.

A set of quality headphones will help me hear my students' voices.

At any given moment of the day, I have more than 25 tabs open: Zoom, Google Classroom, Attendance, Slide Deck, Lesson Plan.

Dozens of things are going on in front of me: kids (physically) walking in the door, kids arriving on Zoom, "welcome everyone!" Open the slide deck; share my screen; take attendance.

"Remember to turn your cameras on! What, you can't hear me? My internal microphone isn't working - wait, let me restart.

I need a tech set up so my students can hear me and see me. I need to hear and see my students.
