My Students

Picture this, a classroom of 26 five year olds staring at you, eager to soak up any information being taught! They are excited and energetic, despite the fact that many of them come from families with very little. I want my students to have the best resources in front of them all the time!

My students are from a high poverty area of DC.

Despite this fact, the school is one of the top performing schools in the city. Teachers are dedicated to ensuring students have the best of what's around and students are excited to learn and grow. Every day I walk into school, I am greeted by the best smiling five year-olds around. It is my job to make sure I am doing everything I can to set them up for successful school careers that lead to the amazing lives that they want and deserve.

My Project

I am asking for a set of fabulous read aloud books. These books are great for character voice and they teach wonderful lessons to the students. Not only do the students enjoy hearing them as read aloud books, but they also love being able to get together with their friends and practice reading them together.

Read with friends sets the foundation for a life-long love of reading!

It also helps students be able to read more fluently. When they are able to read their books more fluently, that frees up their mind to focus on really understanding the story. I want students to love reading and to feel pride in their abilities.
