Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a classroom teacher, most if not all of my students come from inner-city, low-income households. The student population is diverse and transient, many children entering my classroom have limited English speaking skills as well. My classroom will become a safe, consistent and positive place for my students to call their own.

This will be my 2nd year teaching after returning to the classroom, this year I will be teaching 1st grade and I want to provide as many opportunities for student success as possible.

A classroom that includes about 25-30 learners, school supplies are in high demand. My students will go through an enormous amount of paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc. as they practice writing, continue to learn how to properly form letters and eventually write all by themselves!

Basic classroom supplies provide students with opportunities for academic success. It is amazing to see what these little learners can achieve with the proper tools! My 1st grade classroom will become more than just a room for many of these children.

I want to provide my students with all they will need to grow, learn and become fluent readers and writers.

My Project

As an inner-city school within a large school district, funding can be tricky. This project will help to enhance my teaching styles as well as provide a learning environment with endless opportunities.

As the classroom teacher within a First Grade environment, I want to model "good learning habits" such as organization, the "Store and Display Teaching Cart" will help to keep me organized and stress-free throughout the school day.

My students will become more are engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work and/or read. The "Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats" will provide students opportunities to read and/or write within their "comfort" zone.

Additionally, having an actual "Bookshelf/case" in the classroom will continue to keep the classroom organized and orderly. Likewise, books that include the subject area or topic of choice can be displayed and easy to find rather than digging through cubbies of books.

Providing hands-on learning materials such as the "Jumbo Magnetic Ten-Frames" will allow the students to work individually, cooperatively and in whole groups settings as well.

Finally, in my classroom, I want the students to be aware of the world around them and the need to "reduce, reuse and recycle." The "Reusable Write and Wipe Pockets" are a perfect tool in order for students to understand the impact this will have on the world around them as well as an added piece to their learning environment.
