My Students

I have twenty-eight first graders who love to read in English and Spanish. In our school, fifty percent of the students receive free or reduced-price meals. My students have very diverse backgrounds and come together to form a wonderful community.

My first graders enjoy participating in literacy activities and they are eager writers and readers.

They love creating stories in both languages and learning new math concepts. They are eager scientists and they are always interested in learning and sharing their cultures.

My Project

My first graders are learning about geometric shapes. I want them to learn by doing hands on projects with different shapes. But in order to do that, my students need three dimensional blocks that they can manipulate.

I also need a laminator.

In a bilingual classroom, it is very important to have everything labeled in two languages. All the resources that I produce for my students should be in two languages and should include images that students can use as clues to learning a new language. A simple device like a laminator could help me reduce the amount of paper that I use in my class and to produce printed materials that last.

In helping my class to get a laminator, you are helping to save time and material and you make valuable resources readily accessible to my students.
