My Students

My students are rich in diversity: I work with students who were born in other countries and speak other languages, students who are impacted by poverty and a lack of resources, students with a variety of special needs, students who range in age from 4-11. What they all have in common is that they love to move!

For our health and safety, due to COVID-19, we will be having PE classes outdoors as much as possible this year.

While there are many benefits to learning and being in the great outdoors, there are also challenges. Our families and our community really value our students’ education but our financial resources are limited.

My Project

After months away, my students are glad to be able to return to school but we are all having to adjust to so many changes. One important change is that special area classes like PE will be held outdoors. This will allow children to have a much needed break from wearing their masks. While there are many benefits to being outdoors, the weather in CT is notoriously unpredictable. These shelters will allow us to create a safe and healthy outdoor space where students can learn about wellness in a physically distanced but socially connected way.

Our main focus this year will be Social Emotional Learning and these shelters will enable me to create a warm, nurturing learning environment outdoors.

I will be able to hang banners and other educational materials and ensure that students feel safe and secure. The shelters will allow us to establish a consistent outdoor routine during a time of so much change and uncertainty.
