This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Dr. Seuss once said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Help us know more and go far by allowing us to read new and engaging material.

This is my very first year teaching third grade in the Chicago Public School system.

There are currently 28 students in my classroom, including students with special needs as well as English Language Learners. 93% of our school is considered low-income and receives free or reduced lunches. The student body consists of 65% Latino, 30% African American, and 5% Caucasian

My Project

Although my students enjoying checking out books from our classroom library, the library itself is in a serious need of a makeover. The books provided for the children offer very little variety in genre as well as ability, and most of the books are old and torn. With a donation of brand new books from various genres and diverse ability levels, the students will definitely be more engaged in the reading process. They will be exposed to new types of literature, which will provide a better range of knowledge on topics such as American history, famous people in history, nonfiction, folktales, and fairy tales. As third graders, the students must be familiar with all genres of literature and be able to identify the key features of each form of writing. Having books from various genres right at their fingertips will provide the students with a more meaningful and beneficial experience to different kinds of literature.

Your help will ensure that my students have access to a variety of engaging literature across genres right at their fingertips.

Having these new books available in our classroom each day will ensure that the children will leave my classroom with the knowledge needed to continue to be successful in the areas of reading and writing. With your generous support, the students' learning will be enhanced during this crucial time of learning, and their love for reading will continue to grow.
