My Project

Many of my students are medically fragile and unable to access gardening. Most of the students are in wheelchairs and some are tube fed with limited motor control. The materials in this project will allow students to grow vertical gardens so they can physically plant, maintain and harvest. Items received will also allow students to learn about weather and climate change. Students in my class learn best when they participate in hands on activities but lack the ability to navigate in their environment. We have some vertical planters, but lack seeds and needed equipment.

My students need to learn about sustainability and the environment. By learning and engaging in gardening activities they will finally be able to access these important issues. By measuring local weather they can actively understand changing weather in their lives. Classroom lessons planned include how to compost as well as setting up school compost projects. Information related to climate change will be incorporated as well through.

Gardening allows them to fully engage in outdoor learning and gain valuable sustainability experience. Let's give the students access to these activities for hands on learning and experiences.
