My Students

As a 2nd grade teacher in a low-income, high ESL population, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I try to keep things fun and engaging and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences in a warm and encouraging environment. My classroom is a beautiful mix of students who have special needs, struggle with behavior issues and are learning how to speak English. Everyday I try to make each of them smile and enjoy school as much as possible.

My students deserve the best learning experiences and it is my responsibility to provide it for them!

Unfortunately, for most of my students, the importance of education is not stressed at home. My class is a curious bunch and always asking questions. During our nonfiction units, their faces come to life. Having new nonfiction books would definitely motivate them to become life long learners and never stop their curiosities.

My Project

My students struggle with reading. The only books they want to read are the nonfiction titles and unfortunately there are not enough to go around for a room of almost 30 children. The nonfiction books we do have are few and falling apart and outdated.

I want my students to have new, clean and exciting nonfiction books to help build their reading motivation, imaginations and strengthen their reading skills.

I plan lessons based on my students needs and likes. Since nonfiction books help motivate their learning, these new titles will help improve their reading levels and boost their imaginations and curiosity!
