Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” - Dr. Seuss By giving my students an opportunity to be engaged through reading, I can help them on their path to successful lives.

My students are truly a diverse and exceptionally special group of learners that unfortunately lack exposure and opportunities to get their hands on fascinating and engaging educational reading materials.

Because many of our students fall into the lowest one-third in both NYC and NYS for literacy, they have to deal with countless obstacles in their quest for high achievement on school and state assessments. As a school community, our teachers and staff all share the same goal: to enrich the lives of our students through learning and support them on their path to success. We need to prepare them with the skills and motivation to help guide them on the path to college and career readiness.

My Project

With this year-long subscription to Science World, my students will be able to learn and read about new discoveries, news, and research in the sciences. Through their engaging graphics and high-interest articles, Science World will help give students real-world connections to science topics through reading. These monthly magazine subscriptions would be used and shared with all of our middle school super scientists and allow the incorporation of differentiated reading into our daily instruction. These magazines not only provide exciting and unique articles, but also include links to engaging videos, extension materials, and projects that support the middle school science content. There are countless teacher tools that allow for differentiation to help promote an increase in literacy and support our varied level learners. This magazine subscription is an invaluable resource that can ignite a fire in our students to be motivated to explore and learn more about the world around them.

As educators, we have the power to motivate and prepare our students to be life-long learners.

With the goal of preparing my students to be college and career ready, these magazines will help to show them all of the incredible opportunities that they can explore in the STEM field. Additionally, these magazines can help them to be better readers, yearn to learn, and inspire them to be the successful leaders of our future.
