Help Mrs. Dobson

I currently teach 6th grade at an urban Albany, New York public school. This year our budget did not pass and the school board has to put forth a contingency budget for the community to vote upon. Unfortunately, money for classroom supplies is non-existent under a contingency budget. I believe that 6th grade is crucial to teaching students how to organize their academic start. Notebooks in primary colors will help students to become organized by subject. Highlighters, pencils, and pens will give students the supplies they need since many come from homes where supplies cannot be afforded. Student planners will also help students organize their daily homework. They will have a specific space to write the assignment down and when it is due. Currently, my classroom does not have a pencil sharpener. Electric sharpeners will help students prepare for the day first thing in the morning rather than sending them to various classrooms to sharpen pencils. This would increase their learning time if sharpeners were readily available. You can help 6th graders start off a great, organized, academic career in a positive way.
