This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a second grade teacher in a high-need community, in an urban public elementary school.
Due to budget cuts, my students do not have any supplemental materials that assist them in becoming successful in reading and writing. Currently, I am implementing poetry into my students' daily activities to help them excel in reading and writing and personal expression.
This book will allow my students to see that poetry is an outlet for them to express themselves through writing and also that they can "break out of the box" and express themselves in a new way. It showcases students just like them and how they became successful writers through poetry.
Your help will ensure these students have incredible supplemental materials that will allow them to not only express themselves, but also to excel in their vocabulary development, comprehension and fluency.
