I have a very diverse group of students including many different ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, and personalities. I want each of my students to be exposed to several cultures and races while reading. Each day brings new experiences and lessons that my students teach myself and their peers. Over 70% of my students fall in the poverty level and do not have access to a quiet, comfortable place to read outside of school. A driving desire to get students to love to read is my motivation behind this flexible seating idea.
Instead of my students seeing reading as a chore, I want them to have a love for and a desire to read!
Once they find that reading can be fun, I hope they carry this with them for the rest of their lives. Reading leads to knowledge and knowledge is powerful!
My Project
With these new books I can help my students foster a love for reading! I have worked hard to introduce them to new genres. Our librarian does book talks every Monday and allows students to learn about many different books that are available to them.
I want them to be exposed to as many new cultures, races and topics as possible every single year!
My students will love to learn about Malawi and the culture of those that live there. I can incorporate many science lessons with this text as well! Cross-curricular instruction pulls the whole grade level together and makes it easier to get the kids involved and excited about learning!
Please consider donating! I can't wait to read this with my students!
