This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special education class consists of students ranging from preschool to 2nd grade. They are all diverse children that have specific needs and interests, all the while sharing an excitement to come to school everyday and participate in the engaging lessons I have planned for them! My students all come from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, and I would like to be able to provide them with the necessary equipment and support that they need. Our school is an extremely large elementary school with a very supportive Special Education team, who want to provide students with the resources to achieve the best, both academically and socially! Unfortunately our resources are limited and we do not always have the funds to provide all materials.

My Project

Exploration, questioning, and discovery are all integral parts of learning about science. I want my students to be able to do all of these things, and one of the most beneficial and effective ways to do this is through experimentation and hands on learning. My students, who have intellectual disabilities, need this hands on learning to fully comprehend difficult questions such as where do we live in the universe, how does a flower get water, or what happens when colors mix. The materials listed will help my students explore these questions, along with many others, and answer them through their own experiences and experimentation.
