Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of ten wonderfully, bright and happy children. They are in a special education classroom, on a modified curriculum, which means they learn at their own pace and are not subject to the general education curriculum or learning timeline. My students are in my classroom due to a label of Intellectually Disabled, Other Health Impaired, and/or Autism. They require a lot assistance to learn and to complete activities. Some need assistance with gross motor and fine motor skills such as hand under hand for writing activities. Others are still being potty trained, and all have trouble retaining and recalling educational information. I have children that have been hospital/home bound for medical reasons, and this is their first year in a school. They are my superstars, and they love music, painting, dancing and most things in color and interactive.

"All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them." - Magic Johnson

My Project

An iPad in the classroom would be an added bonus for students that are not physically able to use a computer. I-pads are an alternative for students with physical and intellectual impairments to access and use technology in the classroom. Students will become active learners and can engage with minimal assistance. Not only will the students have access to applications that reinforce reading, writing and math; but they can also take virtual field trips and explore the world.

An I-pad in the classroom would be an amazing learning tool and would add some excitement to our learning day.

Another amazing classroom tool would be a mini photo printer. I would like for the students to become explorers in our school environment and take pictures with the iPad that can be printed on the mini photo printer. Whether related to science, social studies or catching our classmates engaged in learning; these photos will help remind the students how important it is to play an active role in learning and in school. I believe posting the photos within the classroom will excite the students and motivate them for their next adventure,
