Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, my students have missed out on valuable educational experiences as well as the fostering of their social-emotional needs. I have especially noticed this with my incoming 5th graders who have shown more anxiety and sensory-seeking behavior than past groups. These students were in kindergarten when the pandemic began. They missed out on valuable and foundational skills while having to learn virtually or separate from their peers. It is apparent in their academic levels as well as their social-emotional maturity of how this has impacted them. The Active Stools are helpful for many of my students when attending to tasks while still being able to move around. The sensory fidgets and sand are helpful for my break space when students experience anxiety or just need a break. The counting popsicle sticks and board game are to support students who are continuing to struggle with their foundational academic skills in a more fun and tactile way.

I think it is very important to enlighten students and praise students for the different ways they learn as they begin to understand what helps them most.

A reminder that we all learn different and have different talents. My goal is always to make my students feel comfortable, be excited about learning, and feel small wins through encouragement and love.
