Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our goal is to enhance our library’s educational resources by incorporating interactive animal kits on ladybugs and ants, along with books that provide in-depth knowledge about these insects. These hands-on tools will offer students the opportunity to observe real-life ecosystems, deepening their understanding of scientific concepts such as life cycles, habitats, and the roles insects play in nature. By engaging with both the kits and the books, students will develop critical thinking and observational skills, gaining a greater appreciation for the natural world.

How these items will impact learning:

The animal kits will provide a unique, immersive experience that brings science to life. Instead of learning from a textbook alone, students will engage directly with live animals, allowing them to see biology in action. The accompanying books will serve as valuable educational guides, reinforcing what they observe and helping them make connections between theory and real-world phenomena. This dynamic approach will spark curiosity and make complex scientific ideas more accessible and memorable.

Goals for the project:

Foster a hands-on learning environment that inspires curiosity and a love for science.

Help students gain a practical understanding of insect life cycles, habitats, and behavior.

Encourage collaborative learning as students work together to observe and document their findings.

Provide resources that support both in-class learning and self-guided exploration of nature.

What makes our students special:

Our students are enthusiastic, eager learners who thrive on curiosity and discovery. They are at a stage where hands-on, interactive experiences can have a profound impact on their understanding of science and the world around them. By bringing these kits and books into the library, we can tap into their natural curiosity and provide them with the tools to explore, question, and learn in ways that are both fun and educational.
