Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an incredible group of high school students at The Global Learning Collaborative, a school dedicated to preparing young people to engage with the world. My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn about different cultures and perspectives. Despite their challenges, they are deeply committed to expanding their horizons and understanding the world beyond their immediate surroundings.

Many of my students dream of exploring the world, but limited resources make it challenging.

Virtual reality (VR) technology can change this by bringing immersive global experiences directly into our classrooms.

The VR headsets I am requesting will transform how my students learn by making abstract concepts tangible and inspiring curiosity and critical thinking. Through VR, they can virtually visit iconic landmarks, explore diverse landscapes, and immerse themselves in different cultures. They'll experience history by standing in ancient ruins, geography by navigating global environments, and social studies by seeing the world through people's eyes in different communities.

Beyond exploration, students will engage in problem-solving challenges, such as urban planning and conservation efforts, and participate in role-playing scenarios to build empathy and perspective-taking. VR will also help them practice world languages in real-world contexts and gain cultural insights that connect directly to our global curriculum.

These headsets will be more than just a technological tool; they'll be a passport to richer, hands-on learning experiences. By integrating VR into our classroom, I aim to spark students' curiosity, deepen their understanding of the world, and encourage them to become informed, empathetic global citizens. This project will open up opportunities for my students to dream bigger, connect learning with real-world applications, and experience the world in ways they never imagined—all without leaving the classroom.
