Help Ms. Stork

As an eleventh grade teacher, one of my largest concerns about my students is what they will do after their impending graduation. "Who are you?" and "What do you want to be?" are two common questions I ask my students. The problem is, they lack role models in their lives to look towards when answering these questions. Our town is struggling to combat the effects of a high unemployment rate, single-parent homes, teenage pregnancy, and easily accessible drugs. It is extremely difficult for my students to see a life beyond their current state of broken homes and struggling to stay straight with the law. For the first time in history, the President of the United States comes from a background similar to that of my students! What a perfect role model to help my students realize that regardless of the situation they are in, they too can achieve their dreams-- maybe even become President! Please help my students experience the writings of a man who has recounted his struggle to become someone and has achieved beyond society's expectations. With this exposure, I hope my students will gain inspiration to rise above what they have grown up with, further their education to college, and emerge as respectful citizens who have a greater understanding of who they are and what their purpose in life should be. Thank you for your support.
