My Project

In both my physical science and environmental classrooms, I attempt to give concrete examples of how the science we learn about is incorporated into the technologies that we see today. In Physical science fuel cell technologies are difficult for students to conceptualize without a physical model. They can get the basic idea using diagraming and videos, but they would be able to describe and explain the technology much better with physical models to manipulate in class. In environmental science my students similarly need to be able to conceptualize fuel-cell technology as well as see how easy electricity generation is. Students in my class have to plan and develop their own 20-acre sustainable piece of land where they can plan to provide for their basic needs including food, water, shelter, and electricity. These functional models will help them to conceptualize the most difficult of these, generating electricity.
