I work in a Title I, (Pre-K-8) community public school. My students are a very unique group of students. My students are inner city, public school students who all have various disabilities. We are considered a self-contained class, due to the severity of some of my students’ disabilities. My students currently have a few educational supplies, but due to economic environment and disability needs, technology and additional resources are requested.
They are in dire need of having access to quality materials both inside and outside of the classroom; however, providing them with the supplies necessary to learn in this context is a struggle due to strict budget cuts.
Our teachers know our potential and is constantly challenging us to grow as readers, thinkers, and individuals. Please help my students to provide them with the best educational environment.
My students require differentiated materials due to multiple grade levels and instructional levels. This project will allow my students access to classroom text regardless of reading ability. My students will be able to read the text and express their understanding in various ways. The novels Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief, along with Roll of Thunder hear My Cry, are required reading for students this year. The novel and audio books with headphones will help with the daily reading during reading rotations.
With this project, my students will have the listening materials necessary to not only be successful readers but gain needed confidence to show their potential for an even brighter future.
My students currently enjoy a small listening center station with bi-weekly rented county library books. Unfortunately, I do not have enough classroom materials for each student to achieve absolute success and greatness. These items will also help with organizational skills for my students. This project will help my students learn while ensure success in school and beyond.
