My Students

Children are naturally curious and that curiosity can come alive in Science!

Our school is a small public school located in a rural area.

I have a very enthusiastic and inquisitive group of 32 fifth graders. They enjoy hands-on activities and Science look forward to Science. Unfortunately, because of budget cuts, there is very little money available for the materials to provide these opportunities for my students. Our PTA is very active and extremely generous, but, because we are a small school, they, too, are limited as to what they can fund.

My Project

These materials will provide a great start for my students. They will be able to learn about the food chain as well as explore the world of crystals. The crystal trees and the microcrystals will provide them the opportunity to explore the world of crystals. They will be able to explore crystals made from different minerals and explore how the different minerals create different textures in the crystals. In addition, they will be able to use the Scientific Method to design and execute their own experiments to extend their inquiries..

Reading about Science is great but when a child actually explores and finds their own results it is so much more meaningful.

As students do the explorations, they are constantly thinking and the quality of their questions becomes more analytical. Getting students excited about Science at this age can spark the interest and talents of future researchers and scientists. The possibilities are endless!
