Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and our families are mostly hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Our library makerspace and crafting area has become very popular -- students can work on projects in the morning, at recess, or other free times.

We have recently had a lot of student interest in Origami! These how-to books and origami paper will be a great addition to our library and makerspace. Working on a new skill and a challenging project fosters perseverance and problem-solving skills, and paper folding is great for developing fine motor skills as well. Origami and other paper crafts are also a great calm-down activity that I would like to have available for any student who needs a break during the day.

Any tools and resources that motivate students are valuable to have in a collaborative learning space like our Library Media Center.

Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and as I continue to cultivate it into a 21st-century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students are accessing!
