Exploring New Instruments at Roosevelt

Help me give my students a wonderful year in their new music class. My students need instruments for individual and group practices in the classroom. We also need a color printer for sheet music and classroom theory assignments.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. We've recently had a devastating weather event that turned our Houston Community upside down.

Last week marked the 1 year reminder of Harvey that most of us are still recovering from.

Hurricane Harvey destroyed most of their homes in our immediate area and several students are still currently displaced. My school is considered high poverty and many of our students do not have technology at home. Ninety percent of the students here have qualified for free or reduced priced lunch, as well as having English as a second language spoken in the home.

Despite all of the challenges that our students are facing, they are always eager and ready to learn every single day. To see the excitement and anticipation each time they step inside my classroom door is what I live for. My students all have the drive to be successful love hands-on learning.

Our students are always eager and ready to learn. They are excited to know what is in store for them each time they step inside my classroom.

My Project

The violin and guitar from this project will give music students a hand-ons experience with instruments that we don't have access to in the school. So far they've learned about the instrument families and are very excited about learning more in the string family which is why I am hoping to get them a violin and a guitar funded for the classroom. With these instruments and more my students will get the introductory lessons needed to excel in elementary music. The printer and the toner will help with visuals for the classroom as well as sheet music in multiple colors for part-playing and evaluation.
