My Project

My Deaf and hard-of-hearing middle school students are full of curiosity and love learning science through hands-on, visual experiences. They thrive when learning is interactive, especially when they can explore real-life science concepts through touch, sight, and movement. Many of my students are visual learners and benefit from materials that bring science to life in ways traditional books or lectures can’t. With frog dissection kits and a hydroponic growing system, I can offer them meaningful experiences that make abstract ideas real and memorable.

We are currently using the FOSS Populations and Ecosystems unit and recently explored photosynthesis, food webs, and habitats.

These tools will help students deepen their understanding. The frog dissection kits will allow students to observe internal systems and make connections to organism structures and survival. They’ll explore questions like: How does this frog live in its environment? What organs help it survive? The hydroponic system will bring our plant lessons to life, helping students grow real plants and track growth under artificial light. They’ll connect what they’ve learned about energy, systems, and environmental impact to real-world plant growth. Both tools provide rich, visual learning designed with Deaf students in mind.

What makes my students so special is their ability to learn and thrive in a world that isn’t always built for them. They communicate in American Sign Language and depend on visual input to process what they learn. My goal is to make science come alive in ways that are accessible, exciting, and unforgettable. With your support, these students will experience science in a whole new way—through discovery, exploration, and connection to the world around them.
