Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a title 1 school with students from a variety of backgrounds. Our students excel with hands on work, they are creative, hard working, and building intrinsic desire towards education. Brazilian cultures is a space where students can reflect on themselves qua their society, the realizations that students have vocalized have in turn educated the teacher. First and foremost, students in this enrichment are challenged to think of themselves as a community where learning and fun do not have to be dichotomous.

My Project

Students will be able to make and try foods that come from Brazil and which have rooted themselves as an intricate part of Brazilian culture. Brazil is a sugar rich country, there is a history rooted in colonialism and indigenous resistance that makes trying these foods even more exciting.

Students will get a holistic sense of culture, not only by doing in class work that relates to the colonial history of Brazil but they will also taste the cultural products that have crystallized themselves in the daily life of Brazilians.

For example, what is Guarana and where does it come from? Finally, what does it taste like?! This is history for the senses!
