The goal for my art program is to expose students to a world of art that goes beyond paper. I teach the students about different types of art jobs, most of which, we don't normally see in our small town. I got the idea from watching students sketch ball gown designs at recess. I would love to teach the students about fashion design - how designers sketch out different looks in a flip book, how they use various fabrics, colors, and textures to create different looks, and how they can use their artistic, creative minds to design on a dress form instead of paper.
Young Artists LOVE to try new things...Students are engaged when they get to try something new that they haven't tried before.
I requested 3 types of kits to cover all ages, from 5 to 11. 6 of the kits allow young fashion designers to dress the forms with plastic buttons that press into the form so that the fabric stays in place on the form without the use of needles or cutting. The other kits, for the older students, use scissors and needles so that they can learn to sew. Finally, I requested drawing plates to help spark the creativity of students to mix and match different tops and bottoms and then color them how they see fit. This will be an engaging topic for students.
