Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach students with special needs in a low income area. Their needs range from Learn Disability to Autism Spectrum Disorder. My classroom is specifically for students who need to learn in a self contained environment. This means they need a small classroom of no more than 12 students, a classroom paraprofessional, and modifications to assist them in meeting the learning standards.

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions!

They love hands-on activities and games that allow them to play without realizing they are learning. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take risks in order to learn. My students never let their disabilities get in their way or meeting learning goals.

My Project

In order to best meet my students' learning needs, they need to work in small groups. Students feel most engaged in what they are doing when they are playing games with their peers. It assists our students in taking risks and learning academic language.

Learning centers are highly effective tools that students can use independently to achieve their learning goals.

It is important for all students to know they can learn on their own and from their peers. Research shows that children learn best from experience and the centers are perfect for allowing students to explore learning in the classroom.
