This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a 4th grade reading teacher, serving students in a low-income neighborhood. My current students were affected by the pandemic in their first and second grade year, which caused them to loose out on valuable foundational skills they needed in order to excel in their reading. Because of this, I am asking for an in class library for my students that will spark their interest in reading.

I believe reading allows us to open our minds to new experiences.

Through books, we're able to explore unfamiliar worlds through curiosity and this is exactly what I hope to unlock in my students. I love watching my students explore words through books while making meaning of the world around them.

My students' reading levels range so greatly and I would like to provide them with books that not only spark their interest, but would give them the confidence of knowing they can successfully read them. I want my students to know that I am one of their biggest supporters and believe that each and every one of them have the ability to flourish and become all that they can become.
