My Students

Our school serves students in grades PreK- 5th who are coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds, including children facing physical and mental disabilities. Our students are incredible learners; eager to learn and create their own music. They enjoy every opportunity to perform for families, friends and community members.

I wish to add some musical instruments to our music classroom will increase student engagement dramatically.

This will make learning music much more fun and hand-on relevant. The requested instruments including a cajon, cajon drumset, woodblocks, claves, and guiro.

My Project

Every music class students learn to read rhythms by reading it with syllables, clapping and moving their bodies. Using various percussion instruments I can demonstrate rhythms on a real instrument, and students can echo those patterns of various levels of complexity. Additionally, we can have students figure them out adding another layer of rhythm to make up their own rhythmical composition. Lastly, students can perform various rhythmic patterns demonstrating their creativity and musicality to others.

Playing rhythms is an excellent way for students to practice elements of music because they utilize multiple modalities to see, feel, hear, and create rhythms alone and in groups.
