Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to find out about myself and my students. I am in my fifth year as a first grade teacher in the Bronx. My school has over 1,000 students and is rated a tier 1 school (high poverty). I strive to give the 30 or so students that I teach the best education that I can. My class is a combination of English Language Learners and general education. I'm warm, supportive and encouraging. I want my students to be the best they can be and strive to be anything they want to be.

My students don't have a lot of support at home, so I strive to create an environment where they have the support to try new things and are not afraid to take risks.

We do not get a classroom budget for school supplies so I try to do my best to supply my students with what I can on my own or are able to make. Any help would be greatly appreciated by my students, school, community and myself!

My Project

A bookshelf at my student's height would make it easier for them to be independent learners. A new bookshelf would be great for them to organize and explore books that interest them and help them grow.

Books on CD would help my young students to become comfortable readers and help my language learners to understand and follow along in the text.

Both would be an amazing addition to our first grade classroom and help to create a classroom environment of excited children who are not afraid to take risks, try new things and stay organized at the same time. We would greatly appreciate your help!
