The children of our school are bright, inquisitive, and full of energy. Montessori allows my children to flourish in many different areas, without them feeling different. They learn through hands-on activities, so everyone learns in their own way. The classroom is a happy community. Students are focused. They take joy in their work. They invent, explore, experiment, confer, create, prepare snacks, and curl up with books; sometimes they might even reflect in a peaceful, meditative corner.
Older children are seen as role models within the community, in our multiple-aged classroom.
They support the growth and development of younger children through socialization, assisting with new work, or teaching skills they have mastered themselves.
At any time that you may visit you will see children engaged in multiple activities, anything from partner reading, story writing, play rehearsal, using math manipulative to science experiments.
My Project
The bright children of our school will explore our world through their hands. They will read, research and create geography features of our world. How can you say what you will be if you do not know what the world offers? This project will allow the children to create geographical features and learn about the cultures of the people in these locations. They will see that they have much in common with children all over the world.
An art project, hands-on science experiments and field trips can transcend textbooks and flash cards.
Think about your most outstanding memories in school. What were you doing? More than likely you were creating something with friends. Even as adults, we learn through experience.
The children will research a country's physical features, then create their favorite feature. Presentation of their model is an important part of our Montessori classroom. The children will present their model after researching the effects the physical feature has on how people live with it. By having clay, painting materials and a variety of reading leveled books for research, the children will be able to complete this project multiple times.
