My students need a stream table for a hands-on/visual of erosion to fully understand land formation. I am requesting a set of 5 student manuals (not to be written in) that will be reused each year.

I absolutely love seeing my students’ eyes light up when unveiling an engaging, hands-on science activity. There is something mesmerizing about science class. The nature of how our world works is intriguing to their young minds. A science textbook has boundless information, but unless a student has a personal connection with the information, true learning is lost. Sometimes it can be difficult finding hands-on lessons to establish a real-life connection, but when one is found, the abounding knowledge and connections gained from it is unparalleled to that of a textbook.
My Project
Every year in my fifth-grade classroom, my students struggle with the true understanding of weathering VS erosion. It is part of the 4th-grade curriculum and is tested in the 5th grade but not in the curriculum. Having a hands-on stream table in the classroom along with other activities will aid in understanding how erosion creates different types of land formation. From the Grand Canyon to the ocean floor, students will be able to have a better understanding of how and why our Earth is formed the way it is. After using the stream table kit, students will be able to differentiate between weathering and erosion.
