My Students

Today, companies are hiring employees who have a technology skill set that goes beyond keyboarding and an elementary understanding of Microsoft Office. Students need to be learning skills such as movie making and podcasting in school.

My students attend an inner-city public school in a major US city.

The vast majority have a desire to be on the cutting edge of technology but do not yet have the ability to do so. Beyond that, my students hope to attend special-admit high schools throughout the city, but few of them have the necessary tools to put together digital portfolios.

My Project

I am requesting a pair of headphones for each of my iMacs in the computer lab, so that students can view the videos they create without distractions. Additionally, I am requesting an external hard drive so that we can easily share the videos or podcasts the students create and have a backup file of each, in case we were to have an issue with our server. Finally, I am requesting two tripods for our Flip video cameras so that the students can set them up in almost any setting to record their videos.

This project is important because it will give many students an opportunity to express themselves using technology.

Students will learn new skills that they can continue to use through high school and college and well into their careers.
