Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students attend a small Title I school in the Bay Area. This is my second year teaching, and I am still working on building my classroom supplies and materials. Many of my students' families cannot afford to purchase books and supplies at home, which is where you come in!
My class this year truly loves to read!
They ask for more silent reading time, and started the school year with the stamina to read for 30 minutes, when usually I need to slowly build up to that length of time. I am so excited to build on their excitement this year, and to do this I will need your help!
My Project
My students love to pick a series, author, or topic, and really run with it! If they find a book that speaks to them, they cannot wait to read others just like it. The books in this project focus on expanding our classroom library by adding high-interest series, building series we have already started, increasing our collections of books by the same author, and rounding out topics and subjects the students have latched onto.
With the addition of these books, my students will be able to feed their love of reading.
To meet the Common Core State Standards, my students need to read both fiction and nonfiction, and need to read at or above grade-level. Introducing more books to the classroom library gives the students the best chance possible to become literate citizens and create a lifelong love of reading.
