My Students

"Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book." When you pick up a book, you journey to another world. Many of my students may not be able to travel very much, but they will learn to explore the world through our class library.

My students are a voracious little group of readers, and they are flying through the classroom library.

Our school doesn't have its own library, so, for many of them, my bookshelves are their main avenue for exploring the literary world. With each new history unit, they are full of questions expanding greatly beyond the scope of what we'll be able to cover. I'd love to provide them with the resources to expand their background knowledge and conduct their own research.

My Project

These books will reside in our cozy classroom library, but I doubt many of them will ever stay there for long. There is legitimately a waiting list throughout the day for visiting our library, with students lining up during morning work and transitions to get their turn and choose their next book. Not only will these books be available for students to check out, but we will also incorporate them into our daily read aloud to expand on current units of study. We can also use them during our enrichment block for independent and group research projects. Needless to say, I wouldn't be surprised if they're worn out pretty quickly!

I have been blown away by how excited my students are by the classroom library, and I never want them to run out of options for an exciting new book.

I also cannot keep up with the questions the put in our question box each day -- their curiosity knows no bounds. These books are a perfect way to continue this reading momentum and expand students' knowledge. Plus, the books will help engage them in our history lessons even further.
