This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second graders are creative and curious scholars. Though they are in their third year of school, every one of those three years have brought unique challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They have navigated virtual learning, hybrid learning, and the return to in-person learning like champions. They truly are rockstar scholars, and I am proud of the things they are accomplishing every single day!

My Project

We have returned to the classroom, and for some of my scholars, this is the first time they have been in the school building in over 18 months. As we develop plans for keeping safe this year, we are cognizant of the fact that scholars may need to have individual sets of materials, and that we will need to more frequently clean and sanitize our common spaces.

As we navigate COVID-19, we are getting creative with the many ways we deliver instruction, and how students use our instructional space.

One of the ways we are helping to keep as socially-distanced as possible is with small-group instruction. I will meet with a group of 8 or fewer students at a time, while other scholars are working on independent practice, enrichment activities, or receiving additional help.

Because our scholars have been navigating COVID-19 since their kindergarten year, there are some 'gaps' in their knowledge, and our scholars are achieving at wide variety of academic levels. To help fill in those knowledge gaps, I'd like my scholars to have workbooks with a wide variety of academic content to practice as part of their independent small group stations. With these Brain Quest workbooks, which I've requested at a variety of levels to accommodate students' needs, scholars will be able to practice skills such as identifying coins and counting money, adding and subtracting one-digit to three-digit numbers, identifying and classifying shapes, sight words, and beginning reading. It is my goal to have scholars work in these workbooks for a short period each day, to help 'exercise our brains'!
