My Students

My younger students and special ed. students love to run, jump and play during physical education. They love to use colorful manipulatives like bean bags or scooters. My challenge is getting them to stay on their feet, take turns and stay engaged in the activity. These items will help improve these skills.

My students range in age from 4 years (Pre-K) to 11 years (5th grade).

They range in everything from ability and interests to cultural differences. When my students come into the gym the goal is that they all participate and have fun. At times class sizes are large but with good management and fun activities, this goal is met.

My Project

The materials I have requested are geared toward the younger students such as Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st grade as well as some of the special education students. These students are the ones who need a lot of hands-on activities that will keep them motivated and engaged. They also need improvement in balancing, taking their time and taking turns. A couple of the items I have requested are the balance pods and stepping stones. The colorful look and soft feel will have the students interested to see what they are and eager to try them out themselves by balancing on each color. There are many games that can be played using these items. As the students are engaged in the activities, they will be improving balance at the same time.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom by having more students participate during activities.

Students will begin to see that exercise can be fun and motivating. The students will enjoy exercising and hopefully they will be eager to continue games, activities and exercises outside of school.
