Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our K-8 Center come from different socio-economic backgrounds. In my classroom I teach students with a range of abilities and disabilities from gifted students, ESOL students learning English as a second language to those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, specific learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

My wonderful first graders are ready to learn!

I have many students in my class who receive free or reduce-priced lunch.

Although they all come from different backgrounds and experiences, they all have a desire to learn and are excited about coming to school! My wish as their teacher is to foster a love of learning, and to help the children succeed and achieve their learning goals.

My Project

Research has shown the importance and benefits of play. With these materials, the students will be able to exercise not only their body but also their mind to improve their coordination, balance and fine and gross motor skills all while having fun! These benefits transfer to the classroom helping students with better and longer attention spans, working well with others as well as having them use up their natural stores of energy. An excellent way to develop coordination is through rope jumping. We will start with basic lessons to show those students who don’t know how to jump yet and add additional skills and maybe even some jump rope tricks. The hoola hoops are always fun but can be used in more ways than one. Students can go through an obstacle course, throw a ball through a hoop or my favorite, the human chain where students pass their body through a hoola hop while holding hands! Lots of fun activities to do with these great materials.
