This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I volunteer with the Auxiliary Dance Team at the high school, where Ms. Tara Burks serves as the Sponsor and the Coach. I have been working with the team (coaching/volunteering) for two and a half years. The Auxiliary Team has many events during the school year which could be very costly. We have smart, talented, and enthusiastic girls who really enjoy dancing and performing along with representing our high school. We are seeking performance clothes, performance sneakers, and jazz shoes to ensure that the girls are able to participate in the remaining planned engagements/performances (Football Games, Parades, Mardi-Gras, and Battle of the Bands) for the 2024-2025 school year. There are other costs that the girls are still responsible for in these performances. Some examples of costs are money for food, travel (as needed), getting hair done, and also purchasing what is needed in order to style their hair.
These items will serve as reminders of their participation and accomplishments, promoting a positive and inclusive environment both when they are performing and in the school setting.
Your support in providing these needed items will contribute to enhancing the overall experiences for our girls and also put less stress on our parents (mostly are low-income) in trying to purchase them. This kind gesture will make the girls feel valued and celebrated.
