My Students

This section asks me to tell what I love about my students. I can't help but laugh when reading that because, honestly, there isn't much to not love about these unique children. I go through the day laughing at their silly remarks, freezing in my place when they completely blow me away with their unique perspective, and cheering when they completely rock standards no one expected them to.

My third-grade special education class is filled with thirteen completely different, amazing, and intelligent rock stars!

They work so incredibly hard. The light bulb moment they have when they finally get something is the best thing to see from them. Once that light bulb goes off, they are not stopping! I have students that hate doing work, but once they get it and you see that light shining, they beg to keep going. Ten math problems or one passage is no longer enough!

My Project

My students need some new ways to learn! We talk about the same things over and over and have been using the same methods. My students need exciting new materials that will keep them hooked on learning.

My students struggle with reading altogether.

That transfers to reading comprehension, writing, and math. In order to succeed in ELA, my students will benefit from fun games. As soon as they see game boxes, they are drawn in. Not many game boards that we have to include actual help for things in the classroom. The inference game sounds exciting and based on reviews, has really helped students/children with understanding parts of comprehension. Inferences are important as they read along with a passage, letting me and their general education teachers know they are understanding the text.

In third grade, they have to pass their writing test at the end of the school year. We discuss many different types of writing in the third grade. When I saw the books about Stella, I knew instantly my kids would benefit from hearing the writing methods in a book. It will also help to hear a perspective from a child their age, like Stella. My students do not like having to look back in the text in order to show evidence and these books explain the steps through Stella. It will motivate them to get started!

Struggling with reading hurts my students through all subjects. Most of their goals in math revolve around word problems. They have to read and take important parts out of the question. The hot dots will help guide my students through these problems in a new way. Sometimes they get tired of just hearing their teacher explain it. The pen will make it more exciting!
