My students are curious and excited about learning. They love to read and in fourth grade, students are reading to learn. My students need interesting, non-fiction text that is written on their level.
My fourth grade students are learning how to write and respond to different types of text structure.
They are also learning comprehension skills. They are learning how to take notes about what they are reading, how to stop and reflect and reread text to make sure they are comprehending.
My Project
Scholastic News Magazines will give my students relevant, exciting, non-fiction text to read. Fourth grade students are reading to learn, not learning to read. These magazines incorporate news style articles written especially for kids, on a fourth grade level. These magazines, with their real world problems and articles, will ignite my young students' critical thinking skills to solve problems and create solutions to what is happening in the world. Each student will have their own magazine. This will allow them to take notes and highlight the article which will help them with their comprehension skills.
Students will learn how to summarize the articles, report to our class about the articles and compare and contrast articles.
