Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students will walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. We are a real melting pot as my students come from all walks of life and different cultures.

We are a Dual Language class, and this adds an extra challenge to First grade.

My students are accessing general education content in two languages (English/ Spanish). They are an energetic group of first graders. We celebrate little wins together each day in both words. I seek to prepare our bilingual students to tackle the ever-changing world that demands a multitude of languages.

My Project

This project will benefit all my students. I am asking for a variety of books to support reading and language development. Often the level book bins are empty, and my students cannot practice their reading skills as much as they can.

Providing my first graders with additional books will help my children develop the essential skills in the areas of alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, and print knowledge that provide a foundation for learning to read.

My students apply the reading skills they have been learning since Kindergarten. During this time, they gradually build their repertoire of sight words, and we need a variety of books with different interests to develop the love of reading.

The lists just keep on coming! I have two book projects going with most of the titles having been requested by students n English and Spanish. These books will keep our independent reading time offerings strong, compelling, and reflective of the diverse backgrounds and interests of the awesome young humans I'm privileged to hang out with each day.
