My students need a carpet, book shelf, and adjustable tables to complete their class library. They also need scissors that adjust to both hands and other class supplies.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students have engaging books to read, but lack a soft and inviting rug to sit upon to enjoy a quiet read in their class library. The scissors they use are dull, tear their paper, and do not switch from right to left hand. When painting, my students work with old, bristle-shedding brushes.
My young first grade students are a lively group of people who are curious about their world and enjoy exploring it through hands-on activities.
They are fully engaged in lessons when they can touch and manipulate materials, as they learn new concepts. They love to read and discuss books with partners. Many times they share personal connections to the stories they read together, forming bonds of friendship. My students show great interest in art, and enjoy illustrating their written work. Today they made stand-up paper dolls to coincide with their study of arts and crafts as fun, alternative activities. They attend a public school in a high poverty area. Despite this adversity, they strive to do their best work and succeed. My students have positive attitudes at school and show great perseverance in their work.
My Project
The rug, bookshelf and adjustable tables will transform our simple class library into a comfy and unique reading nook where students can curl up with books, friends, and their imaginations. They will learn just how special a quiet and calm reading area is for reading concentration and comprehension. The dual-handed scissors will allow all my students to be more successful making intricate paper cuts and cutting other materials like yarn. Each student will be able to use their own bottle of glue when needed instead of having to wait until a bottle is available. The pattern blocks and Tall-Stacker Building sets will allow my students to practice math skills such as making patterns, geometric shapes, and problem solving. Students will be able to paint freely without worrying about getting paint on their desks while using the large paint trays. The various sized brushes will allow students to select the type they need for their paint strokes. These supplies will enhance their learning.
My public school has had to cut back on basic class supplies due to cuts in education over many years, and thoughts of obtaining enriching class supplies vanished from my mind long ago.
With your donation, you will bring back the ideal of investing in the lives of young students. You will send a loud message of just how much their community cares about them. You will help level the educational funding divide between affluent and poor schools, giving my students advantages all students deserve.
