My Project

My classroom consists of 1st grade special education students. The students in my classroom are students with learning and emotional needs. A learning environment for a child with special needs should focus on presenting the material in a variety of ways.

My students require many different strategies to help them learn new information, including lessons that include visual, tactile, kinesthetic, and auditory teaching, large and small group work, and individual attention.

The items my class is currently in need of will help build a multi-functional classroom. The Busy Book workbook/activity binders can help students feel more engaged and motivated while increasing reading comprehension and language skills. Plus, their easy setup makes these books an appealing, accessible classroom activity.

Items such as Learn to Dress Owl Doll will help my students learn basic life skills like lacing their shoes, snapping, buttoning, and zipping up their jackets, for example. Jigsaw puzzles and magnetic building blocks allow students to use their imagination and creativity, as well as develop their fine motor skills.

Our class is also in need of essential items for a morning circle center. The calendar and weather pocket chart, talking flash cards and press to learn phonics poster will create an interactive environment for all students to be able to comfortably participate, using their preferred mode of communication.

Finally, I would love for my students to have an abundance of fidget tools readily available. Fidget tools, sometimes referred to as sensory tools or fidget toys, are designed to help with self-regulation. Fidgets come in a variety of formats and have been shown to help students focus, relax, and maintain attention to instruction.

All of the items that I am requesting are multi-functional, allowing children to develop fine motor skills, communication, verbal and problem-solving skills, memory, logic, imagination and visual perception.
