I would like my students to have access to a variety of hominid and Ape skull replicas. We will use them in order to demonstrate the general classification of hominids and apes. They are an excellent tool that demonstrates the relation between function and structure and the evolution of structural features. I am the biology teacher, and this semester we will be studying Human Biology, a course that was chosen because I want to prepare our students for possible training in the medical and affiliate professions. As a result, our discussions and instruction will center on humankind's evolution. We will also be discussing the necessity of rational thinking and fact based decision making for a sustainable human future. Our school serves high school dropouts from the poverty corridor between Evanston and Chicago's lakefront. A number of students from other Chicago communities that have found themselves out of school have chosen our school because of our commitment to serving youth who have been failed by the educational system. Sixty students will participate in this project. The materials we need are: a Hominid skull kit, one Human female skull, one chimpanzee skull. I think it is crucial that our students realize through hands-on experiences the role of evolution to who and what humanity is today. Thank you for your consideration.
