Help Mrs. Baker

Every child should be taught a basic core of knowledge. In order to obtain this optimum learning experience a student should be taught about history of civilizations, music, art, idioms, classic literature, and science. There are Core Knowledge curriculum materials that make these subjects thorough and age appropriate. I teach twenty-one third graders in a Title one school that focuses on Core Knowledge. We teach these subjects daily throughout the year. We believe an education enhanced by classic literature and world history will enable our students to be the most informed and well-rounded adults possible. I look forward to enriching my classroom with materials made specifically for teaching third graders about such topics as Vikings, Native Americans, Ancient Rome, The American Revolution, flight, light, constellations, and ecology. In order to teach basic core information, I need to present the topics in a way that will allow the students to interpret, understand, and relate to the information. We would then use the student-friendly books and hands-on activities to create research projects. The projects would employ a variety of methods to appeal to the learning style of each student (i.e. write a song, make a model, compare lifestyles with charts or software, etc.). This will not only ensure that the students retains the information, but also applies his understanding in a concrete way that is meaningful to him and his classmates. This multilevel approach will help the students to visualize, remember, and use the information for years. Your help with quality materials will allow my students to enjoy studying social studies and science topics and help them to be more informed adults. You will make a big difference in our future.
