Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our elementary school, we strive to find leaders in all our students. We are a Title I school with a large population of English language learners that focuses on motivating our diverse student population to have a growth mindset. Our students are developing the 6 C's global competencies (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and character), skills needed to excel in life.

My 1st-6th grade students are full of life and energy.

They are eager to take on any challenge that comes their way. I want to be able to give them the tools and develop the skills needed to become lifelong learners and find fitness for life.

My Project

In my Physical Education class I love teaching my students non-traditional sports. It allows them to learn basic physical skills in a fun way. Gaga Ball is one of those non-traditional sports growing in popularity.

Gaga Ball is definitely a fun and fasted paced sport all students should have the opportunity to play.

Gaga Ball is played in an octagonal shaped "pit". The game combines dodging, striking, jumping, running and critical thinking skills. The students need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by a foam ball. The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students is for these baby play yard gates. By using these baby play yard gates it will allow me to be more flexible in teaching this activity inside or outside. It will also allow me to modify the size of the "pit" based on the amount of students I have in my class. Lastly, it is compact and easy to store.
